Shake and Spill

This activity helps children relate a given number to other numbers. Today, we worked with the number seven.

The first step was to place seven counters in a cup.

Then the children shook their cup and spilled the counters onto the table.

After that, the children recorded their results on paper and talked about what they noticed with a teacher.

Some children were ready to extend the activity by writing addition sentences to match their pictures.
