Building with Recycled Materials!

Our special visitor

There was a Wolly Bear Caterpillar hiding out in our Pansies. We researched what these caterpillars eat and decided we would love to have him visit for awhile. One of the children in our classroom made him a sleeping bag and our caterpillar seems to love it!

Lexington Community Night is tonight-Friday, April 25!

Poem-you

Drumfit

Today we experienced Drumfit. What an amazing experience! Please ask your child about their experience and visit http://drumfit.ca to learn more!

Egg painting

We painted eggs today. Your child's egg is in his or her lunch bag for safekeeping. We wouldn't suggest eating them as they have been at room temperature all day.

Exploring our fingerprints!

Happy Earth Day!

Ask your child what they can do to help our planet.

3-D Shapes -Learning Goals

The children have been very interested in building 3-D objects, so we decided that it would be an ideal time to start exploring 3-D shapes. Our learning goals for the end of our two year program is for the children to be able to say:

-I can describe 3-D shapes (e.g., This cube is made up of squares).
-I can sort and compare 3-D shapes (e.g., shapes that roll, shapes that slide).
-I can build with 3-D shapes (e.g., I can build a tower out of the shapes that have flat faces).
-I can name common 3-D shapes (cube, cylinder, cone, sphere).

Mr. Knicker Bocker

One of the class's favorite songs is Mr. Knicker Bocker. The song ends at the number 5  but the children made up five more verses. They were excited to have it posted on the blog. I asked if they could add the illustrations. Now they can teach it to you. Enjoy
Mr. Knicker Bocker, Mr. Knicker Bocker number one,
He had gum on his thumb
Chorus: So let's hear the rhythm of the hands (clap clap)
Let's hear the rhythm of the feet (stomp, stomp)
Let's hear the rhythm of the hips. (woo, woo)
Let's hear the rhythm of the number one. One (clap)
Mr. Knicker Bocker number two
He got stuck in his shoe
Chorus

Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number three
He was stung by a bumble bee
Chorus

Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number four
He got stuck in his kitchen door
Chorus
Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number five
You sure are lucky to be alive
Chorus
Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number six
He had to stop to pick up sticks
Chorus
Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number seven
He died up to heaven
Chorus
Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number eight
He has a friend and her name is Kate
Chorus
Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number nine
He has a watch to tell the time
Chorus

Mr. Knicker Bocker, Knicker Bocker number ten
You are strong like one hundred men
Chorus

Engineers at work

We saw so many puddles in the sand box.
So we tried bailing out the water
The children dug a series of channels so the water flowed from puddle to puddle.
They watched the water escape from the corner
and flow along the pavement
and under the gate.
