Writing numbers

In Room One, we practice writing our numbers on a daily basis. When forming numbers, we share little poems with the children to help them remember how to write their numbers. At home, your child can practice printing their numbers on paper or even in the snow. Your child may also enjoy forming numbers out of playdough or other materials. Please find the number poems below:

A Straight line down
And then we're done
That's the way
To make a one.

Over the hill and across the track,
Then the train goes all the way back!
Two, two,
Two, tow.

Around a tree,
Around a tree.
That's the way
To make a three.

Down and across and
Down once more.
That's the way
To make a four.

Straight line down,
Then around.
Hat on top
And five's a clown.

Watch this rope do a trick,
Down and around
to make a six.

Across the sky
And down from heaven.
That's the way
To make a seven.

Make an S
And do not wait.
Go back up
And that's an eight.

A balloon on a line,
That's a nine.

Having fun with the letter 'N'

This week we had fun with the letter 'N' by gluing noodles to decorate our letter 'n'!

Three Dimensional Shapes

We are exploring 3-D shapes. This week we used 3-D shapes as paint stamps. This activity helps the children see what 2-D shapes the 3-D shapes are made of.

We are also enjoying learning the song "These are the 3-D Shapes That I Know". You can find this song at These are the 3-D Shapes That I Know!

The Letter 'P'

We celebrated with popcorn!!

Poem of the Week

Sink or Float

We have been exploring why objects sink or float.

The children have been building boats and then testing them in our water centre. If the boat sinks, we are encouraging them to think about why it sank and they have a chance to fix it at our boat building factory. We have been so impressed with their creativity and problem solving skills.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!!! It was exciting to welcome Mrs. Sugg back and we had a wonderful first week back!
