More name practise!

Sorting

We have been focusing on sorting a collection of fall gems. Ask your child how he or she sorted them.

Hibernation

We have been talking about how we stay warm in cooler weather. This topic led to a conversation about how animals survive the cold. This led us to check out several books from the library about hibernation. Several students in our class have also enjoyed pretending that they are hibernating animals.

The Three Little Pigs

We have been reading several different versions of The Three Little Pigs. The children have also enjoyed retelling the story with felt characters.

Poem Oct.14-17

Patterning

We have been learning all about patterns!  See if your child can find some patterns in his or her world (e.g., stripes on a shirt). We have been working on creating and extending patterns too.

The Turkey Trot

Perhaps your child came home and told you that he or she did the "turkey trot" at school today. If you're new to our school, you might be wondering what the Turkey Trot is all about. The Turkey Trot is a wonderful Lexington Public School tradition. From Monday, October 6th until Thursday, October 9th, children run/walk laps around our school and in exchange they are given ballots to enter into a "turkey" draw.  In Kindergarten, we go as a class and stick together. During our assembly on Friday a "frozen turkey" winner will be drawn from each class. It is so much fun to see the children be active and celebrate Thanksgiving. To add to the excitement, the song "Let's Turkey Trot" by Little Eva is played over our PA system each morning. A big thanks to our Parent Council who has generously donated turkeys for this event.

Fun with the Letter "Dd" and doughnuts!

To help celebrate the letter Dd we each enjoyed a quarter of a doughnut. We made a sign-in sheet to find out what kind of doughnut each child preferred!

Weekly Poem- Sept. 30-October 3rd

Every week we focus on a different poem. We use our weekly poem as one way of teaching early concepts about print (e.g., reading left to right, tracking or voice-print matching), letter sounds, punctuation and sight word recognition. Each week we will post our poem on our blog so that your child can share it with you.
