'C' is for Cookie!

We are learning the letters of our friends' names! So far, we have practised Aa, Bb and Cc. Today we baked cookies (in the shape of the letter "C") to celebrate the letter 'C'. Yummy!!!!

Solving problems together!

Some of the children in our class were working hard at our Mat Man centre to figure out what was wrong with the Mat Man they built. What great collaboration and teamwork!

Respect Assembly

Today we joined the rest of the school in the gym for an assembly about respect. The children showed so much respect during the assembly and were fantastic listeners. Way to go K1!

At the assembly, we listened to a story called "Hey Little Ant".

"Hey, Little Ant is a song-based children’s picture book used throughout the world to teach young children alternatives to violent and bullying behavior and to emphasize the worth of all living things. The story of Hey, Little Ant is a negotiation between an ant about to be flattened and a child (the “Kid”) about to flatten it. The story was written as a song in 1992 by Phillip Hoose and his then nine-year-old daughter Hannah. The Hooses deliberately left the outcome of Hey, Little Ant unresolved, ending the story with the question, “Now what do you think that Kid should do?” (www.heylittleant.com)

Terry fox Run

What a beautiful day! We decorated our running shoes, ran for a great cause and enjoyed eachother's company!

We are builders!

Painting

Ask your child about the steps they need to take when they decide to paint! We have amazing artists in our room!!

Routines

Morning Routines
Before coming in to our classroom in the morning, the children:
-hang up their backpack
-put on their indoor shoes
-put their mailbag in a basket

-put their library book in the bin
-put their lunch on the shelf
-come to the carpet and look at a book

1-2-3 Freeze!
When we need to get everyone’s attention, we ring a bell and then say 1-2-3 Freeze! The children are expected to look at the adult who rang the bell, stop talking and do their best “freeze”.

At the carpet

During group carpet times we practise the following rules to ensure that all of the children can concentrate and hear our message.

Our Learning Tree

Last week we started our learning tree. As we grow as a community of learners, we will be adding leaves to acknowledge and celebrate our new knowledge.

Mat Man

Today we had a lot of fun with Mat Man. Ask your child to sing the Mat Man song to you! We build Mat Man as we sing the song. This song helps children with their spatial sense as they learn to draw people.

Practising making letters

We are practising printing letters, making letters out of playdough and out of wax Bendaroos!

Our Classroom Promises

As a class, we have been talking about how to make our room a fun place to learn and grow. See if your child can finish the sentences for each rule. We have also talked about how important it is to listen to our friends when we are playing or trying to solve a problem.
