Signs of spring
Things were not warming up as quickly as we wanted outside, so we decided to bring in some branches and "force" them into bloom! The children are observing the branches as they unfold.

Using graphing in the "real" world!
It was such a proud moment for us when we noticed a group of boys setting up a chart with the question, "Do you like our castle?". They independently chose to use a graph to get some feedback about a castle they made.
A neat observation!
The children in our classroom noticed that the yellow and red sponges were changing colour when they were in the water. They were puzzled for a moment and then one child exclaimed, "I know why! The water is blue and the sponge is yellow. It's mixing to make green!"

Printing Numbers
Straight line down
And then we're done.
That's the way
To make a one.
Over the hill and across the track,
Then the train goes all the way back!
Two, two,
Two, tow.
Around a tree,
Around a tree.
That's the way
To make a three.
Down and across and
Down once more.
That's the way
To make a four.
Straight line down,
Then around.
Hat on top
And five's a clown.
Watch this rope do a trick,
Down and around
to make a six.
Across the sky
And down from heaven.
That's the way
To make a seven.
Make an S
And do not wait.
Go back up
And that's an eight.
A balloon on a line,
That's a nine.

The Integrity Song
Some of the children in our class are still humming our Integrity song. Below is a link to a version of our Integrity Song. Your child might enjoy singing along!

Rhyming Critters
A child in our classroom brought in the book "There's A Wocket In My Pocket" by Dr. Seuss. The story inspired us to make some of our own creatures that rhyme with a location in our classroom.

More Chemical Reactions
After our Volcano, some of the children in our classroom continued to be very interested in chemical reactions. We set up a a science centre where the children could experiment with mixing baking soda, cocoa, flour, lemon juice and vinegar. There was a lot of excitement as the children watched the bubbly reactions that happened!

Creating our own graphs.
The children are beginning to create their own graphs by posing a question and then surveying their classmates. When your child has finished his or her graph, we are asking him/her to answer questions about the graph (e.g., Which colour was the most/least popular? How many people liked baseball the most?).
Pancake Tuesday!
